Today, iconic family restaurant chain, Mike’s Kitchen, opened its second franchise store in Kwa-Zulu Natal at the R1 billion Park Square Campus, Umhlanga’s newest business and lifestyle development.

Not only is this the restaurant chain’s second store opening in KZN this year, it’s the second on the KZN North Coast in six months.  “As KZN’s North Coast has become an economic hot-spot with property values soaring and business expansion booming, it made perfect sense to offer another Mike’s Kitchen ‘home-away-from-home’ dining experience to the Park Square community,” says Mike’s Kitchen CEO, Salim Shermohammed.

The myriad of employees working in the Square’s 36 000m² high-density A-Grade office blocks, as well as the countless visitors moving through the 4 000m² of retail space on a daily basis, will form the core of the new restaurant’s clientele.  In addition, with families and individuals living in the neighboring residential estates, Shermohammed and his team anticipate that Park Square Mike’s Kitchen will flourish seven days a week.

The restaurant’s layout spans an area of 690m² with seating for 132 diners indoors and 128 outdoors.   With a focus on all patron’s needs, a private meeting room where informal meetings can take place, will be an attractive facility for businesses in the Park Square office blocks.  “Informal business meetings in restaurants have become extremely popular in recent years, however sometimes greater privacy is required by business patrons,” says Chris Van Zyl, Mike’s Kitchen Park Square franchisee.    “For us to be able to offer this facility to our customers, is a real win.”

Children remain a large part of the Mike’s Kitchen focus, and they too will be looked after at Park Square and treated to a safe and secure state-of-the-art play area that houses an eco-friendly jungle gym.

Known for its homely ambience where generous portions are served from a menu of old favorites, fresh and wholesome seasonal delights as well as traditional South African fare, Mike’s Kitchen Park Square will follow in the footsteps of the other 16 Mike’s Kitchen restaurants around South Africa.

“While we are enormously proud of our 46-year history and have taken the finest learnings and recipes from our forefathers, we are focused and committed to the next generation and creating new memories,” says Mike’s Kitchen COO, Teresa Amodio.

Mike’s Kitchen’s comeback to Kwa-Zulu Natal started in June 2018 with the opening of the Salt Rock store in the Salt Rock Shopping Centre, Mount Richmore Village Estate.
